Black and White images of Buckfastleigh station, terminus of the South Devon Railway, a heritage steam railway that used to be the Ashburton branch of the Great Western Railway and British Railways before it was closed as part of the Beeching cuts of the 1960s. The branch originally terminated at Ashburton but had to be shortened to Buckfastleigh in order to allow the building of the A38 dual carriageway. View the full post

Three shots from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s Scottish Branchlines Gala held a couple of moths ago. all the images are of ex.LNER 0-8-0 Class Q6 steam engine 63395 at Grosmont station. The photos have been converted to black and white, slightly toned, two showing a the engine at the head of a rake of LNER Teak coaches and the third is of it running through the station light engine. These are three shots of ex.GWR Pannier Tank 6412 at Totnes from a trip to the South Devon Railway today, an heritage railway formed from the now truncated Ashburton branch of the former GWR. The railway now runs along side the River Dart between Totnes and Buckfastleigh. View the full post
