Gawthorpe Maypole Procession 2014

Yesterday, being the first Saturday of May, saw the staging of the Gawthorpe Maypole Procession through the village and into Ossett and back. This traditional Mayday celebration has it’s origins in the Middle Ages and the local events have been held for well over one hundred years.

Further details can be found on the organizers’ website HERE.

I’ve posted seven photos of the procession, mainly from near the front of it.
