Had a visit to the railway station on our visit to Whitby yesterday, mainly to see how the work to bring the second platform in to use is progressing. Most of the trackwork seems to be in place and work has started on extending the second platform to enable (I assume) the long steam trains from the NYMR to be able to use that platform.
Whilst I was was having a nosey, a train from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway arrived, with a heritage Diesel at the Whitby end and Black 5 45407 The Lancashire Fusilier at the Pickering end. I assume they are having to do it this way whilst the new track layout is under construction as there is no facility for the steam engine to run round the train.
I’ve posted a few shots of 45407 The Lancashire Fusilier.
