Images from the Welsh Autumn Steam Gala on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway yesterday. The title, “Ghost Engine”, refers to the fact that the Black 5 engine 44771 in the photographs was scrapped some fifty years ago. The Black 5 with the 44771 number plate is in fact one of the NYMR’s engines, 45428 or more probably 44806, renumbered for the gala in keeping with the welsh theme. View the full post

Black and White images of Buckfastleigh station, terminus of the South Devon Railway, a heritage steam railway that used to be the Ashburton branch of the Great Western Railway and British Railways before it was closed as part of the Beeching cuts of the 1960s. The branch originally terminated at Ashburton but had to be shortened to Buckfastleigh in order to allow the building of the A38 dual carriageway. View the full post
